With the Santa Ana winds gone, county residents can expect more traditional November weather this Thanksgiving holiday, according to the National Weather Service.

“We’ve got a change. Things are cooling down, and the clouds are rolling in,” forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.

Starting today, everyone can expect some “sweater weather,” Shigehara said. “It will be quite a contrast to the warm weather last weekend.”

The cooling trend is brought about by falling air pressure over the West, allowing more off-shore winds to flow inland, Shigehara said.

“Things are returning more to normal. Normally, Thanksgiving temperatures would be 69 degrees during the day and 52 at night, based on the average for the previous 30 years,” Shigehara said. Monday’s high was 82, but “Tuesday we struggled to reach 72.”

Night and mid-morning clouds and fog are also expected throughout the weekend, Shigehara said.

No rain is expected until the end of the month, Shigehara said. “The storms will tease us. The rains will reach as far south as Monterey and Santa Barbara.

“If we don’t get any rain, it will be the ninth November since 1850 without measurable rainfall.”

County and state offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the holiday. City, county and state courts will also close Thursday and Friday.

Federal courts and offices, including the post office, will close Thursday only.

City offices, libraries, landfills, parks, recreation centers and lakes will close Thursday only. Metered parking will not be enforced Thanksgiving day.

Trash scheduled to be collected Thursday will be picked up Friday, while Friday collection will move to Saturday.

For the holiday week, beach temperatures are expected to range from 66 to 70, falling a degree or two over Friday and the weekend.

Coastal areas can expect temperatures near 70 today and Thursday, and in the 68- to 72-degree range beginning Friday. Night temperatures will be between 55 to 60.

Inland residents can expect temperatures from 73 to 79 through the weekend, with night temperatures dropping to 48 to 56.
