Landlord Panel to Study Plan for Guard Station

Share

A group of Sepulveda apartment owners formed a committee Tuesday to study the possibility of establishing a guard station at the entrance to a 12-square-block area police barricaded two weeks ago to curtail drive-by drug sales.

Police say the program has been so successful that streets should be permanently closed, allowing access only through a guard station.

The City Council, which would have to approve permanent closure, will consider an interim measure today to keep the roadblocks as long as deemed necessary.

Meanwhile, four people were arrested in the Pico-Union area on suspicion of arson after they allegedly set fire to four similar police barricades. Those arrested were part of a group of 10 people calling themselves “The Resistance,” who passed out leaflets comparing the barricades to the Berlin Wall.
