Police Union Wins Ruling Blocking New Contract
The Long Beach police union Wednesday won a court order temporarily blocking city management from imposing the provisions of a new contract adopted by the City Council this week--under protests from union officials.
Jerry Lennon, an attorney for the Long Beach Police Officers Assn., said Superior Court Judge Dzintra Janavs in Los Angeles granted the order pending a Dec. 14 hearing on the union’s charges that the city is violating state labor law and the last police contract by imposing a new, one-year contract.
The city ended nearly nine months of negotiations with the 610-member police union by declaring an impasse Tuesday and adopting the city’s more recent contract offer.
