Killer Captured After Long Chase
Convicted killer Allan Legere, a suspect in four recent murders, was recaptured here Friday after commandeering three vehicles at gunpoint.
Legere, 41, who escaped from prison during a hospital visit in May, hailed a taxi 275 miles away in St. John and forced the driver to head for Moncton.
The taxi went off the road near Moncton, and a vacationing police officer who stopped to offer help was taken hostage, police said. The officer fled at a gas station.
Legere was caught near the community of Nelson-Miramichi after commandeering a truck.
