Kevin Klein and Diane Keaton will star as a married couple in “Monkeys,” an intimate drama that marks the directorial debut of Oscar-winning screenwriter (“Melvin and Howard”) Bo Goldman. Goldman has adapted Susan Minot’s novel, set in New England, about a man who has allowed his own self-expectations cripple his appreciation for family life. There’s talk that Goldman’s pal Warren Beatty--for whom he wrote “Dick Tracy” and will script Beatty’s long talked-about Howard Hughes project--might also play a role. Financed by American Film Investment Corp. and produced by Andrew Karsch, the film should roll June 1, probably in Canada. . . .

It may be Nick Nolte opposite Barbra Streisand in United Artists’ “Prince of Tides,” which Streisand will direct. At one point, Robert Redford expressed interest in the project, inspiring talk of a Streisand-Redford reunion. But Redford’s no longer involved with the film, which is set up at MGM/UA and headed for a spring launch. . . .

A February shoot in Alaska? That’s what director Randal Kleiser, better known for hot-weather movies (“The Blue Lagoon,” “Summer Lovers”) signed up for when he agreed to direct “White Fang,” for Buena Vista Pictures and producers Michael Lobell and Andrew Bergman. John Briley (“Gandhi”) is adapting Jack London’s classic tale. No casting yet for the teen-age boy and his mentor, but animal-trainer Clint Rowe’s dog, Jed, has landed the title role. . . .

Mike Norris joins dad, Chuck, in 21st Century’s “Top Kick,” a martial-arts action flick, set to start production in February in L.A. and Las Vegas. Warners will distribute. . . .

Jere Cunningham is writing “Flamingo” for producer Joel Silver and 20th Century Fox. The film will focus on the relationship between Las Vegas mobster Bugsy Siegel and his mistress, Virginia Hill, a dance hall singer in the 1940s whom he nicknamed Flamingo.
