Chinese Students in U.S. Colleges

The Bush Administration's opposition to granting permanent visas to Chinese students is so outrageous that it's hard to believe it comes from a President of the United States. This country has proudly been a haven for the oppressed, but apparently no longer. Bush is willing to sacrifice thousands of lives so as not to offend a gang of mass murderers, i.e. the Chinese leaders.

During the election campaign, Bush was hailed as a non-ideological pragmatist. Unfortunately, it's true. Pragmatism is nothing but a euphemism for cynical amoralism. The ideology of individual rights and human liberty means nothing to a pragmatist, as Bush is once again demonstrating.
