Beverly Hills : Decoration Cuts Studied

Share

City staffers are looking for cheaper ways to spruce up the downtown business district.

Responding to a directive from the City Council, they are considering the advantages of concrete sidewalks over the granite walkways originally proposed as part of a $50-million urban redesign program, said Mary Cynar of the city staff.

Other possible changes include reducing or eliminating the redecoration of South Beverly Drive, Wilshire Boulevard, Linden Drive, Roxbury Drive and the western end of Santa Monica Boulevard.

The complex formula for sharing the cost of the project also will be refigured to see what would happen if the burden on owners of high-rise office buildings is reduced, she said.

Depending on the response of the City Council at a hearing scheduled for Dec. 5, the final decision on a scaled-back program may come early next year, Cynar said.
