A Van Nuys pedestrian was struck and fatally injured by a U.S. Postal Service van that he walked in front of without looking, Los Angeles police reported Thursday.
Gerald Cuba, 56, of Van Nuys was pronounced dead at Valley Presbyterian Hospital shortly after the 7 p.m. Wednesday accident at Sepulveda Boulevard near Gilmore Street, Officer Ed Burns said.
The van’s driver, a U.S. Postal Service employee, was not cited.
Burns said the victim was attempting to cross Sepulveda near Gilmore Street, where there isn’t a marked crosswalk. A witness told police that Cuba stepped into the street without looking and was immediately struck by the van, which was driving north on Sepulveda about 30 m.p.h., Burns said.
