COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Orange Coast’s Front Line Leads Rout of Marines

Orange Coast College’s front line of Chip Hanlon, Scott DeStefano and Alan Schlines combined for 55 points Thursday night to lead the Pirates to a 99-68 victory over the Tustin Marine Base team in the opening round of the Miles Eaton Tournament at Orange Coast College.

Hanlon and DeStefano, both forwards, had 20 and 17 points, respectively, and center Schlines had 18. R.H. Lewis has 21 for the Marines.

The victory sets up a second-round game tonight between two undefeated teams: the Pirates (8-0) versus Imperial Valley (8-0), a 73-60 winner over Mt. San Antonio.

In the Grossmont Tournament:

Rancho Santiago 97, Southwestern 74--Rancho Santiago (7-0) was led by center Matt Lien’s 22 points. Guard John Guerrero had 16 and made four of four three-point shots, and forward Corie Blount had 15 points and seven rebounds. Southwestern was led by Scott Matney’s 15 points.

Rancho Santiago advances to a semifinal-round game tonight against Fullerton.

Fullerton 113, Christian Heritage JV 92--Forward Rashone Lewis hit on 10 of 13 shots from the field and five of six free throws to lead Fullerton with 25 points, while teammate Mark Rudometkin had 18.

In the Antelope Valley Tournament:

Los Angeles Valley 65, Golden West 63--J.J. Jenkins scored 16 points and Alex Kreps 15 for Golden West in the second-round game. Golden West plays Glendale today at 2 p.m. in the third-place game.

In the Visalia women’s tournament:

Golden West 100, Sacramento City 75--Claudette Jackson scored 26 points to lead Golden West (7-0). Donna Gondringer had 19, and Stacee Johnson had 17 for Golden West, which advances to the semifinal round tonight against Fresno City College.

In the Cypress women’s tournament:

Mt. San Antonio 93, Cypress 21--Kim Hansen with 14 points and Chris Mendoza with 11 paced Mt. San Antonio in the opening round. Janet Rudner scored nine points for Cypress (0-5).
