California IN BRIEF : LOS ANGELES : 9 People Killed in Weekend Shootings
At least nine people were killed in weekend violence in the Los Angeles area, including a wounded man who apparently died in an Altadena garage after fleeing from the scene of a drive-by shooting. Sunday shootings were blamed for the deaths of a man in Los Angeles, another, Conrado Avila, 26, in Long Beach, a third, Julio Alberto Ochoa, 19, in South Los Angeles, killed in a drive-by shooting, and a 25-year-old Los Angeles woman in Highland Park. Other shooting victims: Brian Keith Green, 27, in Compton; and Gregory Branch, 24, of Los Angeles, who died after he was shot in the head as he sat in his parked car in Hyde Park. A fisherman found the body of a youth in San Gabriel Canyon early Saturday. A sheriff’s deputy said the victim had been shot several times.
