NAMES IN THE NEWS : A Graduation Full of Wonder
Stevie Wonder wore the traditional cap and gown and his trademark sunglasses when he addressed 1,300 graduating students at Michigan State University on Saturday. Wonder’s commencement speech called for unity and more understanding in society. “We cannot allow racism, we cannot allow drugs,” he said. “We cannot allow disrespect of parents, or disrespect of children, or deny the rights of women. We cannot allow these things to happen.” Wonder was given an honorary doctor of humanities degree, and at the end of his address he announced that he would perform four benefit concerts at Michigan State next year.
