Consumer Confidence Off in November: Consumer confidence in the economy fell in November but remains relatively strong, the Conference Board said. A survey of 5,000 households nationwide showed that buying plans for houses and cars are soft and that Americans are slightly less optimistic about their expectations for the economy in the coming months. The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index registered 114.4 for November, the lowest since November, 1988. Respondents’ outlook for economic conditions six months from now showed 17.4% thought conditions would improve, the lowest since April.
