Billy Joel caps off a big year for fortysomething rockers by triumphantly heading both Billboard pop charts with his “Storm Front” album and his single, “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” Phil Collins’ “But Seriously” is the hottest new album on the chart, rocketing to No. 6 in just three weeks. The album is being propelled by the success of his single, “Another Day in Paradise”--No. 2 on the pop chart. In the next few weeks, with this album and this single, Collins may also head both pop charts simultaneously. Other hot new albums: Rush’s “Presto” (No. 16), Eric Clapton’s “Journeyman” (No. 21) and Bobby Brown’s album of dance mixes--”Dance! . . . Ya Know it!” (No. 25).

* Quincy Jones latest potpourri album, “Back on the Block” leaped from No. 102 to No. 49. It has Top 20 potential.
