LOS ALAMITOS : Stake Races Highlight Saturday Night Program

Share

Stakes races are the name of the game Saturday night at Los Alamitos as Breeders and Sires Stakes events highlight the 12-race program.

The main event is the eighth race, in which C D Big Guy and Calvery Officer, one-two in an A-2 A-1 classified event last Saturday night, top a field of seven in the $37,550 California Breeders Championship for sophomore pacing colts and geldings.

Also on tap are breeders stakes for 2-year-old trotting fillies and 2-year-old pacing colts. Goodness Gracie appears ready for the $17,636 second race breeders stakes trot, and Red Star Fantasy looks strong in the 11th race breeders stakes pace for juveniles.

The other breeders championship is the fourth race, and Capuchine will be heavily favored to take home the winner’s share of the $29,690 purse.

In post position order, the field for the $37,550 California Breeders Championship for sophomore pacing colts and geldings lines up as follows: C D Big Guy, William O’Donnell in the race bike; Never Die, Joe Anderson; Calvery Officer, Gene Vallandingham; Spicy Boy, Ken Williams; Looks Like Trouble, Ed Hensley; Target Spirit, Ross Croghan, and Winning Night, Rick Plano.

Target Spirit and Winning Night will race coupled in the wagering as the Mary Ann Plano-owned entry.
