COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Cal Lutheran Still Seeking First Victory

Eastern Montana College held Cal Lutheran guard Jeff deLaveaga to 12 points and handed the Kingsmen a 76-52 nonconference defeat in Billings, Mont., Friday night.

It was Cal Lutheran’s sixth consecutive defeat to open the season.

DeLaveaga, averaging 27.2 points, battled foul trouble all night and eventually fouled out with 8:10 to play.

Cal Lutheran hung tough in the first half and trailed, 29-25, with 4:07 remaining before intermission. But Eastern Montana (5-1) went on a 9-2 run and Cal Lutheran never got closer.

Guard Brendan Dillon came off the bench to score 10 points and grab six rebounds for Cal Lutheran.

Eastern Montana guard Troy Truvillion led all scorers with 20 points.

The teams will meet again tonight in Billings.

Kings River 78, Canyons 68--Kings River slowed the pace and held the Cougars (4-5) to their lowest point total of the season in the semifinal game of the Mid-State tournament at Cuesta College.

Aaron Clark led Canyons with 18 points, Nick Sanderson added 14 points and Justin Scott chipped in eight points and 11 rebounds.

Moorpark 76, Cuesta 62--The Raiders, trailing by 13 points at halftime, went on a 19-0 run in the second half to advance to the championship final of the Cuesta tournament. Moorpark (8-3) will meet Kings River tonight for the title.

Sam Crawford (19 points) keyed Moorpark’s run with two three-point baskets and finished with a game-high 10 assists. Moorpark’s Greg Taylor had 19 points and 10 rebounds and teammate Bruce Watson added 13 points.

WOMEN’S

Christ College 58, The Master’s 49--Center Maricela Lopez scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for visiting Christ College in a nonconference game.

Forwards Susie Sparks and Stacy Ford scored 15 and 11 points for The Master’s (2-9).

Genevieve Graff had only eight points for Christ College (2-4) but dished out seven assists and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Valley 89, East L.A. 33--Valley’s reserves outscored the starters, 55 to 34, in a nonconference victory over East L. A.

Reserves Charlene Cirrito and Lisa Little led Valley (6-2) with 16 points each. Forward Karrie Parsons scored six points and added nine assists and five steals.
