Although I found many, in fact most, of the Kerkers’ statements worthy of contention, I particularly objected to the opinion held by Mr. Kerker that the children of advertising executives are somehow superior to the children of Mexican “gardeners and maids.”

I did not miss Kerker’s point, nor am I arguing the merits of raising one’s own children, but I find this underlying premise appallingly racist.

The Kerkers should think less of their responsibilities as breadwinner and taxi service and more of the responsibility they have as role models for children who are the hope of the future in a changing world.
