Emerson Electric Buys Two Firms: Emerson Electric Co. announced the purchase of Leroy-Somer SA, a French maker of electric motors, for $460 million. The St. Louis-based company also announced the $135-million purchase of McGill Manufacturing Co., a Valparaiso, Ind., firm that makes bearings and electrical products. Emerson is a leading manufacturer of electric motors.
