Rep. Bryant to Seek Reelection to Congress

AUSTIN, Tex. — Rep. John Bryant (D-Tex.), saying he was concerned about the state’s weakened congressional delegation, announced Wednesday that he is abandoning a race for state attorney general and will seek reelection in 1990.
Bryant said the resignation of House Speaker Jim Wright over ethics questions, the death of Rep. Mickey Leland in a plane crash and the retirement of Rep. Marvin Leath--all Democrats--”substantially weakened our delegation.”
