LOCAL : Train Cuts Off Transient’s Foot
A transient attempting to jump on a moving train near Palmdale had his left foot severed when he slipped and fell, authorities said today.
The accident occurred shortly before midnight near a train tunnel at Capra Road and Soledad Canyon Road, said Sgt. Bill Benton of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Antelmo Herrera, 18, of Tijuana, Mexico, was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital where he was in stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Herrera told sheriff’s deputies that he had hopped a train earlier in the day in Tijuana, Benton said.
