NATION : Water Use Curbed in S. Florida
South Florida’s water managers today responded to the worst dry spell in 27 years by imposing restrictions on washing cars and watering lawns and golf courses in the region of more than 4 million people.
The governing board of the South Florida Water Management District approved the restrictions 7 to 0, effective Monday in four heavily populated counties from Key West to the West Palm Beach area, 230 miles to the north.
The first regional water restrictions in nearly nine years are the product of Miami’s driest year since 1962.
