A group of 800 needy children are going to go “Back to the Future” Saturday at a holiday movie screening of of the futuristic comedy’s sequel.

The children, selected from schools and homeless shelters in the Venice-Santa Monica area, will be greeted at the theater by Santa Claus, who will present them with a new toy, said Alison Dockray of the Venice Family Clinic.

“Back to the Future-Part II” actress Lea Thompson will be on hand to greet the children.

The event is a fund-raiser for the Venice Family Clinic. A donation of $25 sponsors one child, with proceeds going to the clinic’s pediatric program, Dockray said. Last year’s program raised $40,000 for the clinic, which has provided free care to the poor and homeless since 1970, including more than 3,500 children this year.
