Tentative Slate for Pageant of the Masters

LAGUNA BEACH — A tentative program has been announced for the 1990 Pageant of the Masters, to be held July 7 through Aug. 26 in the Irvine Bowl.
The pageant, first held in 1933, features works of art re-created on a stage with live models, and runs concurrently with the Festival of Arts--displays of arts and crafts by local artisans.
Works that have been announced for the 1990 pageant are:
Act I--”Washington Crossing the Delaware” by Emanuel Leutze; “Women in the Garden,” Claude Monet; gold mantle ornament, artist unknown; “Thanksgiving,” Doris Lee; altarpiece with Christ and saints, Andrea de Giona; “The Fisherman,” George Bellows; “Game of Badminton,” Maurice Denis; “Maenad,” Paul Manship;
“Portraits of the Plains,” Karl Bodmer; “Louis XIV and His Heirs,” Nicolas de Largilliere; “Finding Lodging for Pilgrims,” Santi Viviani; “Checker Game and Piano Music,” Henri Matisse; “Vaquero,” Luis Jiminez, and antique Japanese festival dolls, various.
Act II--Commedia dell’ Arte paintings by Giovanni Ferretti and porcelains by Meissen; “Children Playing With Boat,” William S. Coleman; “The Annunciation,” Veit Stoss; “The Country Gallants,” John George Brown; “Bellerophon Slaying Chimaera,” anonymous; “Palais de Grace,” Jules Cheret; “McSorley’s Bar,” John Sloan; butterfly brooch, Lucien Gaillard, and “Last Supper,” Leonardo da Vinci.

Volunteer cast sign-ups will be held Jan. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Jan. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Irvine Bowl, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach. No audition is required. For information on the sign-ups, or to arrange a sign-up on a different date, call (714) 494-3663.
