General Cinema Corp.: The Boston-based theater chain announced 1989 earnings of $972 million, compared to earnings of $88 million the year before. The profit figures were bolstered by after-tax income of $866 million on the sale of its soft-drink bottling business last March. Revenue totaled $1.9 billion, up 19%. General Cinema, which owns 60% of the Neiman Marcus Group in addition to its extensive movie theater operations, noted improvement throughout its operations. Attendance at its theaters rose 10% for the year.
