Prince Charles’ to Be Guest of U.S. Architects

Britain’s Prince Charles, whose attacks against modern buildings have shaken up his country’s architects, will attend a celebration of the American Institute of Architects during a weeklong visit to the United States in February.

A royal spokesman said the Prince of Wales also will attend the opening in Washington of an American Architectural Foundation exhibition on the architecture of Sir Christopher Wren, who built London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral.

During the visit, which is scheduled to begin Feb. 16, Charles will be a guest at the American Institute of Architects’ Accent on Architecture celebration in Washington.

Charles, heir to the British throne, attacked the modern face of architecture in his recent book “A Vision of Britain,” in which he complained that high-rise buildings had ruined London’s old skyline of church spires and domes.
