Blast Damages Vehicle at Construction Site

Los Angeles police on Thursday were investigating the detonation of an explosive device that shattered the windows of a front-loader parked at a construction site in Granada Hills, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said the blast occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday at Sesnon Boulevard and Louise Avenue, where property that was once part of the late actor James Cagney’s ranch is being cleared for development by the M.J. Brock Construction Co.

The construction site is not part of the huge Porter Ranch tract currently being considered by the city for commercial and home development, said Detective Patrick Metoyer of the criminal conspiracy unit.

“Some kind of pyrotechnic device was placed in the cab of the construction vehicle and it blew the windows out,” Metoyer said. “Prior to this they have had several acts of vandalism there. This is not believed to be any way connected to the Porter Ranch development.”

The blast did not cause a fire, and police have found no witnesses. Metoyer stopped short of calling the device a bomb. “It could be anything from a firecracker to a homemade device,” he said.
