Favored Invited Guest Is an Easy Winner in Feature

Invited Guest came from last to defeat six fillies and mares in Thursday’s $45,000 allowance feature race at Hollywood Park. Invited Guest, the favorite, covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute 42 1/5 seconds en route to his 1 1/4-length victory.

With the victory, Invited Guest moved past the $500,000 mark in career earnings. The winners’ share of $24,750 increased owner R.D. Hubbard’s account to $511,654 from nine wins, seven seconds and three thirds in 29 starts.

The winner, ridden by Robbie Davis, paid $6.00, $4.20 and $3.20. Heather And Rose finished second and paid $5.60 and $3.60, and White Mischief returned $4.00.

White Mischief, winner of the Hillsborough Handicap at Bay Meadows on Nov. 11, took the lead on the backstretch and opened a 1 1/2-length margin heading into the final turn.

Davis moved Invited Guest out from behind horses on the backstretch and she quickly circled the field on the turn. The first three finishers raced as team briefly turning for home before Invited Guest asserted herself in the final furlong.
