Wisconsin Athletic Director Pat Richter, hoping to name a replacement for fired football Coach Don Morton by Jan. 7, said the field of candidates should be narrowed to two by the end of next week.

Richter said that he had not yet talked to West Virginia Coach Don Nehlen, although he had been given permission to do so.

Morton, whose teams were 6-27 in three seasons, was fired Nov. 28.
