A Riverside man was locked in the trunk of his car for two days by two men who possibly used the car to make drug deals, Riverside police said Sunday.

Luther Loatman, 36, was treated for dehydration and disorientation by paramedics after the ordeal, but declined further treatment.

Police Lt. Ellis Asper said Loatman was kidnaped while loading packages in his car at a shopping center at 11 a.m. Thursday.

His captors ignored his yells for help and parked the car in a field near UC Riverside between 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday, leaving him in the trunk. His yells attracted a pedestrian, Edward Carroll, who finally broke into the trunk with a crowbar about the time paramedics arrived.

Loatman told police he heard his abductors having conversations that sounded like they were making drug deals.

Police said the men took the car radio and an undetermined amount of money from Loatman.
