Vaguely Double Takes Feature Race at Calder
Vaguely Double led wire-to-wire to win the Christmas Day handicap at Calder Racetrack, the fourth win in a row for the 4-year-old.
Betty Sessa’s Florida-bred horse won decisively, finishing two lengths in a front of Mr. Adorable. Highland Springs, the even-money favorite, was third in a field of 12 going a mile and an eighth on the turf.
Vaguely Double, ridden by Walter Guerra, was timed in 1:48 45 and paid $5.80, $4 and $3. Mr. Adorable paid $6.20 and $3. Highland Springs paid $2.60 to show. The winner carried 118 pounds, five less than the runner-up and two less than top-weighted Highland Springs.
