NORTH COUNTY : Businesses Unite to Ease Traffic Woes

Share

A group of businesses in the cities of Brea, Yorba Linda, La Habra and Fullerton have joined to take action against traffic problems on the area’s freeways.

The North Orange County Transportation Management Assn. has eight member companies and the cities of Yorba Linda and Brea, which will plan ride-sharing and van-pooling programs for employees.

“That will help clean up the air, but it also improves conditions on the freeways,” said Jim Charter, chairman of the association and manager of Brea Mall. “It’s twofold.”

Charter said the members must pay a yearly membership fee of up to $4,000 for the service.

Membership in the association will help companies meet regional air quality plan restrictions, which place a limit on the number of cars employees from each company may use to get to work, Charter said.

“This has really caught on quite well and it looks as though it’s going to be very popular,” he said, “We’re dealing with a problem involving everyone in our society.”

Charter said the association has received grants from the Air Quality Management District and the Orange County Transit District, and is working with the state Department of Transportation.
