From Times Staff and Wire Service Reports

A series of small earthquakes has rattled Southern California since Wednesday, slightly increasing concern about the possibility of a major jolt on the San Jacinto Fault, scientists said today.

A quake with a magnitude of 4.3 at 1:41 a.m. today jarred people awake in an area stretching about 120 miles from Los Angeles to east of Palm Springs, but no injuries or damage were reported by police and fire agencies that received calls from jittery residents.

That quake was the largest of about 10 temblors since Wednesday afternoon centered in an area 7 miles northwest of downtown San Bernardino.
