The Rams activated safety James Washington from their injured reserve list today.

To make room for Washington on the roster, the Rams placed cornerback Clifford Hicks on the injured reserve list. Hicks underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the anterior cruciate ligament and cartilage in his right knee.

Washington, a 6-foot-1 196-pounder, has played in nine games this season. He has spent the last seven weeks on injured reserve after suffering a thigh injury during a game against Minnesota on Nov. 5. The 24-year-old is in his second NFL season; he was selected in the fifth round of the 1988 draft after playing at UCLA.
