Suit Threatened Over Waste Dump: Utilities have threatened to sue the federal government over the delay in establishing a nuclear waste dump, saying they face millions of dollars in additional waste storage costs because of federal bungling. Officials with the Edison Electric Institute, which represents investor-owned utilities, warned the Energy Department earlier this month that several nuclear plant operators were “seriously considering” legal action to force the government to pick up the tab for any extra waste storage costs.
