COASTAL SHIFT: For years, the coveted oceanfront land surrounded by Newport Beach, Irvine and Laguna Beach--a pristine area that includes Crystal Cove State Park--has been known as the Irvine Coast. . . . But no more. In what the Irvine Co., owner of the land, calls “a marketing decision,” the developer is now referring it as the “Newport Coast.” . . . Spokesman Larry Thomas said the change has no relation to “more weighty matters, like who annexes it.” . . . The county has indicated that the land, where the Irvine Co. is building luxury homes and a resort, is likely to be annexed by Newport Beach someday.
