The Norton Simon Museum of Art is featuring an exhibition of 31 works by some of the best-known photographers of the 20th Century, including five works from the 1940s by Ansel Adams, who died in 1984.

Also on display are photographs by Edward Weston, Paul Caponigro, Imogen Cunningham, Aaron Siskind, Alfred Stieglitz, Paul Strand, Jerry Uelsmann, Brett Weston and Minor White from 1897 to 1970.

After Impressionism, the theme of nature became relatively uncommon in modern painting, but the image of nature remained a central inspiration in the mainstream of modern photography.
