Bellflower : Voluntary Separation of Paper From Trash to Begin

Share

Bellflower officials are asking residents to separate newspapers from their household garbage in an attempt to reduce the flow of trash to overburdened county landfills.

Deputy City Administrator Craig Nealis said the city will begin curbside pickup of bundled or bagged newspapers on Jan. 22. Nealis said the City Council also is considering asking residents to separate glass, plastic, aluminum and shrubbery for curbside pickup.

Nealis said the voluntary recycling program was instituted in response to a state measure which requires cities to reduce up to 25% of their garbage by 1995 and 50% by the year 2000.
