Three youths who led police on a car chase in an allegedly stolen BMW were arrested Wednesday after they abandoned the car in a cul-de-sac in Arleta and tried to hide in a neighborhood home, authorities said.

The youths failed to stop when police tried to pull over the car about 9:40 a.m. on Cedros Avenue south of Nordhoff Street in Panorama City, police said.

The officers lost sight of the car after a two-minute pursuit, and the suspects got out of the car and fled on Roslyndale Avenue in Arleta, Sgt. Harry Mauk said.

Neighbors told police they saw the youths run into a residence in the 14000 block of Pierce Street, where officers arrested them about 15 minutes later, he said.

The youths were being held at the Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of grand theft auto, Detective Linda Scott said. Bail was set at $1,500 each, she said.

The car appeared to have been hot-wired, Mauk said.
