Sukova won 18 of the last 22 points as Demongeot, who had attacked impressively in the second set, crumpled under pressure.

Sukova will face No. 6 Natalia Zvereva of the Soviet Union in the quarterfinals. Zvereva defeated Etsuko Inoue of Japan 7-5, 6-4.

In other third-round matches, all three remaining Americans were defeated.

No. 10 Judith Wiesner of Austria defeated NCAA champion Patty Fendick of Sacramento, Calif., 6-2, 6-3.

Brenda Schultz of the Netherlands ousted 16th-seeded Kathy Rinaldi of Amelia Island, Fla., 7-5, 6-1, and Australian teen-ager Rachel McQuillan blitzed Stacey Martin of Kettering, Md., 6-1, 6-4.

At Adelaide, Australia, fifth-seeded Paul Annacone of the United States was eliminated in the second round of the Australian Hardcourt tennis championships today, beaten by Mark Kratzmann 6-4, 6-4.

The Australian left-hander has now won 32 of his 37 matches since the U.S. Open last September. Kratzmann won the U.S. Open and Australian Open junior singles titles but is currently ranked only 115th in the world.
