SANTA ANA : Chase to San Diego Ends on ‘Empty’

A Santa Ana man was booked Thursday on suspicion of drunk driving and evading arrest after he allegedly led police on a chase into San Diego which ended when his car ran out of gas.

Mark Allen Tracy, 30, was taken to Orange County Jail after being arrested by Santa Ana police.

The chase began Wednesday night when police tried to pull over the suspect’s car, which was traveling on 17th Street in Santa Ana at 70 m.p.h., according to Lt. Greg Cooper.

Police followed the suspect from 17th Street onto the southbound Santa Ana Freeway, where the chase continued into San Clemente. There, the suspect left the freeway and drove along Pacific Coast Highway before re-entering the southbound San Diego Freeway a few miles down the road, Cooper said.

Two Santa Ana police cruisers as well as units from the California Highway Patrol followed the suspect until his car ran out of gas in the city of San Diego, where police arrested him, authorities said.
