LOCAL : 4 Injured in Nursing Home Fire
A man smoking in bed was critically injured and three other men suffered smoke inhalation at a Los Angeles nursing home today when a smuggled cigarette set the bed on fire.
Officials were unsure how the resident managed to get cigarettes, said a nursing supervisor at Manchester Manor Convalescent Hospital who asked not to be identified. “Evidently, he sneaked them into the room,” she said in a phone interview. “They are not allowed in.”
The man whose mattress caught fire was listed in critical but stable condition at Daniel Freeman Hospital.
