Delivering the New Year Baby

Share

A doctor forcibly delivered a baby so he could show it to a TV audience as the first Orange County baby born in 1990. I think he should, at the very least, be severely reprimanded by the American Medical Assn. (“Baby Rushed Into World for TV,” Jan. 3)

This doctor administered a saddle-block anesthetic in a birthing center and then rushed the infant into another building immediately after birth. A UC Irvine medical expert was quoted as being both frightened and concerned.

The doctor says he wrapped the baby in a receiving blanket and put her in a Christmas stocking! This, it seems to me, contradicts his earlier statement that he warmly wrapped the infant.

The doctor says God had a hand in all this! Well, it’s obvious to me that if God hadn’t been watching over that mother and baby, the story might have ended in tragedy for all concerned.

It would seem that the opportunity to appear on TV, or to have one’s child appear on TV, can cloud one’s judgment, to put it as kindly as possible.
