Residents Unhappy with Councilwoman

Share

We wish to thank Nancy Hill-Holtzman for her accurate coverage of our demonstration against the Rebecca’s Restaurant/West Beach Cafe/L.A. Louver project in her article, “With Venice Protesters, It’s Anything But a Silent Night” (Times, Dec. 14).

In response to the neighbors’ protest, Councilwoman Ruth Galanter told your reporter, “I do care. . . . It is beyond my power to make everybody happy.”

We are extremely disappointed that Councilwoman Galanter’s choice is to make the development interests happy rather than the neighbors. Yes, she cares. She cares enough about these particular developers to have supported a zone change from residential to commercial, two Venice Interim Control Ordinance “hardship” exemptions, and she now supports completely overturning the neighborhood-friendly action of the Board of Zoning Appeals, whose decision denied the Coastal Development Permit for this project.

After 2 1/2 years, her campaign supporters wonder when she will start to make decisions that will make the voters happy.
