Boarding House Owner Dies of Burns
The elderly owner of a West Hollywood boarding house died Sunday of the burns she suffered in a fire that destroyed the residence.
Alice Mary Sheppard, 93, died in the burn unit at San Bernardino County Medical Center, said nursing supervisor Jan Westerson.
Sheppard suffered smoke inhalation and second- and third-degree burns when a two-story wood-frame house in the 1200 block of North Detroit Street, where she lived for years with other retirees, burst into flames Saturday, authorities said.
