SANTA ANA : Car Theft Suspect Critical After Crash

A suspected car thief was in critical condition Monday after colliding with a van at a Santa Ana intersection, ending a two-minute police pursuit.
Chauncey Collins, 20, of Santa Ana received major head injuries and was in critical condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana after he was thrown from the stolen Toyota Tercel he was driving, police said.
His passenger, Jennifer Mann, 18, of Tustin suffered a broken collarbone, police said.
Charges against the two are pending, Maureen Thomas, a police spokeswoman, said.
Police were chasing the Toyota west on Willits Street at about 40 m.p.h. went it ran a red light at Fairview Street and was hit broadside by a van traveling southbound Sunday night, Thomas said.
The driver of the van was unharmed, she said.
