NAMES IN THE NEWS : First Lady Gives Museum Outfit
Barbara Bush presented her inaugural ball gown, in sapphire blue satin and velvet, to the Smithsonian Institution today for its First Lady collection, saying it made her feel a part of history.
Mrs. Bush told invited guests at the museum her hairdresser, Yves Graux, and her favorite designer, Scaasi, both on hand for the occasion, made her “look and feel good.”
“I vividly remember visiting here as a child,” said Mrs. Bush. “I remember the awe and the excitement I felt in our very own history. Who could have ever guessed that fate and an extraordinary husband would actually make me part of that history. I am grateful beyond words.”
Mrs. Bush also presented her trademark three-strand pearls, her evening bag and cape to complete the outfit which went on display today with other inaugural gowns.
The First Lady collection has a new look with mannequins sporting the hairstyles of first ladies they model. Graux copied the hairdos of first ladies from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to Mrs. Bush.
