Compton : Halfway House Won’t Be Allowed to Expand

Share

The Compton City Council has unanimously upheld a Planning Commission decision denying the expansion of a halfway house for alcoholic women at 1218 152nd St.

Operators of the house were seeking a permit that would have allowed them to care for up to eight residents. They are allowed to house up to six residents without a permit. Some neighbors objected to the planned expansion.

Also, in denying the permit, said city planner Barbara Kilroy, the commission took into consideration that the facility was next to a school and that it had only three bedrooms. “The commission thought the house was better suited to six people,” Kilroy said.
