Inamed Unit files for Chapter 11: Inamed Corp. of Carpinteria officials said one of its medical equipment subsidiaries filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection because of a court judgment of more than $2.5 million against the company. Cox-Uphoff lost a suit filed by Mentor Corp. of Santa Barbara in 1987. A jury awarded Mentor $690,000 after deciding that Cox-Uphoff had infringed on Mentor’s patents for a plastic surgery implant and a breast prosthesis. After the initial $690,000 jury award, the judgment was subsequently tripled.
