Public’s Opinion of Legislature

Share

Willie Brown should be the legislator taking greatest exception to The Times Poll showing the low esteem which the voting public has for the California Legislature. However obliquely, the finger points at Brown with his expensive suits, cars, large outside legal fees and highly visible ability to extract political contributions from interests seeking political favors. He is perceived by many of us voters as the embodiment as well as the symbol of what is wrong with the Legislature. In the ‘70s, we voters told our lawmakers to stop taking us out of our homes. Their failure to do so led to Proposition 13. Now we are telling the high-livers in Sacramento to “clean up your act or we will do it for you.”
