THE SIDELINES : Former World Champion Boxer Held in Shooting of Manager

Share

Former world junior-welterweight champion Terry Marsh was arrested today in connection with the shooting of boxing promoter Frank Warren in November.

Warren, who managed Marsh to the world title in 1987, was wounded on Nov. 30 outside a London theater where he was staging a boxing card.

Warren, 37, has recovered from chest and abdomen wounds and returned to promoting fights.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said Marsh was arrested at Gatwick Airport after returning to England from the United States.

He was being questioned at an East London police station but had not been formally charged with any crime, said the Scotland Yard spokesman, who asked that his name not be used.

Warren said in December he was wounded by a man wearing a mask, and he could not identify his attacker. He refused to comment on Marsh’s arrest.

Marsh was forced to give up the junior-welterweight crown after passing out several times outside the ring and being diagnosed as an epileptic. He announced early last year that he had been misdiagnosed, and that he actually was suffering from hypoglycemia.
