BEAMSVILLE, Ontario — Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson was not hurt when his car was involved in a two-car collision in this southwestern Ontario community today.
Johnson was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting a car that pulled out from a parking spot, Niagara regional police said. The driver of that vehicle, Nancy Vandergriendt, 26, of Niagara Falls, was also not injured, police said.
Johnson, who is sitting out a two-year suspension from international competition after flunking a drug test at the Seoul Olympics, was charged with failing to provide proof of driver’s insurance. Johnson has 15 days to appeal the charge or pay a $46 fine.
